A memorandum of understanding between ElectrReon Wireless and road construction firm Eurovia has been signed.

The agreement has been signed as both firms want to build a wireless charging network into road infrastructure across Europe in Belgium, France and Germany.

The letter of intent is valid for five years and see the two companies agree to develop an ‘inductive electric road’ and work with partners on projects, including fleet and energy network operators.

Israel-baed ElectReon will install and operate the charging system with Eurovia taking on the construction element of any potential projects. The proposed system would see coils embedded below the road surface which would activate as EVs drive across them. A special receptor would need to be installed on vehicles, but ElectReon claim that the technology is potentially compatible with all types of EVs.

As previously reported on Transport + Energy, plans are already in place for trials of the technology in Tel Aviv and also within Europe in Sweden, where the Smartroad Gotland project is being implemented with plans to charge e-trucks over a stretch of electric highway at motorway speeds.
