European charging company Zaptec and renewable energy supplier So Energy have announced a new UK partnership designed to help electric vehicle (EV) drivers get more from charging at home.
By combining So EV, So Energy’s new low-cost renewable EV tariff, with Zaptec’s premium charging technology designed for the future of home energy, the partnership gives customers a simple way to reduce charging costs, use 100% renewable electricity and prepare for a smarter, more connected energy future.
Analysis from LCP Delta shows around three-quarters of UK EV drivers already use dedicated EV tariffs, one of the highest adoption rates in Europe. As EV ownership matures, the opportunity is shifting from simply getting people behind the wheel of an EV to helping them get more value from home charging through smarter tariffs, cleaner energy, and intelligent charging technology.
Helping people get more from home energy
The So EV tariff enables customers to charge their electric vehicle for 7.5p per kWh between midnight and 5am using 100% renewable electricity.
For drivers able to charge at home, shifting charging into off-peak hours can significantly reduce EV running costs while making better use of renewable energy generation. In So Energy’s example, charging a Tesla Model Y overnight on So EV costs around 1.7p per mile, compared with 17.6p per mile using a typical public rapid charger. Public charging remains an essential part of the UK’s charging infrastructure, while smart home charging offers many drivers an opportunity to significantly reduce day-to-day charging costs.
To help customers make the most of So EV, So Energy has chosen Zaptec as its preferred premium home charging partner.
Zaptec Go 2 combines premium charging technology built for tomorrow’s energy system, including solar-ready capability, V2G-ready architecture, MID-certified energy metering, and OCPP interoperability.
