The UK’s largest bakery brand Warburtons has taken delivery of its first Yutong TE7 7.5t electric truck from Pelican Electric Trucks.

According to the company, this marks a significant milestone in the company’s plans to electrify its 170-strong fleet of 7.5-tonne vehicles.

The first of seven Yutong TE7 trucks ordered by Warburtons has now been handed over at the company’s Wakefield depot and will begin delivering fresh bakery products to stores across Yorkshire.

The delivery follows a successful trial of the TE7 earlier this year and represents the next stage in Warburtons strategic programme to reduce emissions from its transport operations. The second vehicle is due to join the fleet shortly.

Warburtons has selected the 132kWh battery version of the TE7, offering a range of up to 180 miles on a single charge.

Steven Gray, Head of Transport at Warburtons, said:

“We are delighted to see the first of our Yutong TE7 trucks arrive and to begin putting it to work. We have worked closely with the team at Pelican throughout the trial process, and the vehicle has demonstrated that electric can be a practical solution for our operational requirements.”

The Yutong vehicles represent an expansion of Warburtons battery electric vehicle (BEV) fleet, which has been in operation since 2021, supporting the company’s ongoing transition towards lower-carbon transport.

David Watts, Pelican Electric Truck Sales Manager said:

“It’s fantastic to see the first TE7 delivered to Warburtons following the successful trial earlier this year. The 7.5t sector is ideally suited to electrification, particularly for the urban and regional delivery work these vehicles undertake.”

The Yutong TE7 uses proven Yutong electric vehicle technology and is designed to specifically for the demands of urban and regional distribution. The 7.5t electric truck is available with 100kWh and 132kWh battery options, offering a range of up to 180 miles.
