Gridserve has announced the opening of its latest Electric Super Hub with Roadchef at Folkestone M20 Services as Osprey Charging has also opened a site at Twyford Services.

Gridserve’s site is situated close to the M20 and key routes to the Channel Tunnel, with 12 x 360kW-capable charging bays, powerful enough for the latest electric vehicles to acquire 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes.

The site is powered by net zero energy and offers a simple ‘plug in and pay’ two-step charging process with contactless payment.

It comes as drivers in the Midlands and West of England will be able to use another large ultra-rapid EV charging hubs at Twyford Services, Evesham – developed and operated by Osprey Charging.

The new hub provides 16 ultra-rapid chargers, and is positioned at Twyford Services just off the A46 and A44. The site is in an area identified by National Highways as a “cold spot” in rapid charging provision on the Strategic Road Network.

The hub uses Kempower ultra-rapid chargers capable of delivering up to 300kW, typically adding around 100 miles of range in 15-20 minutes depending on the vehicle.

Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging, said:

“Reliable, high-power charging hubs on major UK roads are essential for the transition to electric vehicles. Twyford Services is a flagship site for Osprey – a large, purpose-built hub in a location that needed better charging coverage.

“Because we own the land, we have been able to build a bigger, future-proofed site using our latest technology, giving drivers the confidence they need to travel long distances in an EV. This is exactly the kind of reliable, super-fast infrastructure the UK needs as electric vehicle adoption continues to grow.”

Daniel Kunkel, CEO of GRIDSERVE, said:

“The opening of our new Electric Super Hub at Roadchef Folkestone M20 marks another important step in building a truly national charging network that drivers can depend on. Perfectly positioned near the Channel Tunnel, this hub serves as both a final stop for UK motorists heading into Europe and a welcoming first charge for drivers arriving from France.

“Wherever they’re coming from, or heading to, we want every driver to benefit from the high speed, assured reliability and ultra convenience that continue to make GRIDSERVE the most used charging network in the UK.”

Walt Antrim, Head of EV Implementation at Roadchef, added:

“Folkestone is a critical location for EV drivers travelling both domestically and internationally, sitting at one of the UK’s busiest gateways to Europe. By expanding charging capacity here, we’re helping ensure drivers have access to fast, dependable charging at a key gateway, supporting the continued growth of electric vehicle travel.”
