Hull City Council has been awarded the Investors in the Environment Green certificate for the seventh year in a row.

An audit in December 2020 said the local authority’s energy use during 2019-20 and its action on reducing its environmental impact between October 2019 and November 2020 were praiseworthy. The report highlighted key achievements including the council’s adoption of the 2030 Carbon Neutral Hull Strategy.

It also highlighted the 7% reduction in carbon emissions across the 40 sites assessed, fleet and staff travel, while also acknowledging its approach to fleet management with green driver training and the overall introduction of EVs.

The audit also noted the move to measuring fleet fuel use rather than mileage to capture emission from vehicles idling – and also recognised its significant reductions in paper use and a focus on climate adaptation.

Councillor Mike Thompson, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, Communities and Environment of Hull City Council, said: “I am really proud that Hull City Council has again shown its commitment to improving the environment and reducing its impact.

“Retaining the Green accreditation from Investors in the Environment is testament to the hard work of staff across the council and our continuing work to improve the lives of our residents.”
