British home energy technology company myenergi has celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade that has seen the company transform from a two-person start-up into one of Grimsby’s biggest business success stories.
Founded in 2016 by local Grimbarians, engineer Lee Sutton and entrepreneur Jordan Brompton, myenergi began with a single product to help households make the most of self-generated solar power.
The company has evolved into an international clean tech manufacturer employing more than 250 people and operating across 10 countries with offices in UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands and Australia. This year, it will sell its one millionth product.
These milestones reflect Grimsby’s transformation into a growing centre for clean technology and manufacturing. Once the world’s biggest fishing port, the town is increasingly becoming recognised for green innovation.
myenergi’s growth has been supported by rising consumer interest in energy independence following geopolitical-led price shocks and net zero trends towards UK-wide electrification.
The company’s success has been underpinned by a nationwide network of installers who have helped bring connected energy technologies into homes across the UK.
Customers are saving £500-600 per year using its flexible, smart EV charging, rising to as much as potentially £1,500 per year, by combining with solar, battery storage, smart tariffs and flexibility services.
Looking ahead, myenergi believes connected homes will be fundamental to building a resilient, low-carbon energy system.
Through its connected technologies, it actively manages 1.7GW of household energy demand, equivalent to almost two-thirds the capacity of Drax’s biomass power station.
Co-founder, Lee Sutton, said:
“We’re proud to be a Grimsby-based company in the industrial heartlands. We are helping transform Grimsby from fish to [micro] chips, reinvigorating the region with new manufacturing opportunities and helping put Grimsby on the map as a centre for green-tech.”
Andrew Clint, CEO of myenergi said:
“Celebrating ten years is an incredible milestone, but what makes us most proud is what we’ve built here in Grimsby. We’ve created skilled jobs, invested in British manufacturing and worked with installers across the country to bring smarter energy technology to hundreds of thousands of homes and driveways.
“Our success shows what British green technology businesses can achieve with great people, continuous innovation and strong local roots. We’re excited to build on that and deliver on our founders’ 100-year vision that will see myenergi contributing to the local and regional economy for the next 90 years.”
