Dr Andy Palmer has joined Fellten as Non-Executive Chairman as the company begins to deploy its Charge Qube battery systems across the UK and globally.

Palmer is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Palmer Automotive, Palmer Energy Technology, and is Executive Chairman of Brill Power Ltd.

He is also Chairman of InoBat, a Slovakian developer of EV intelligent batteries and also holds Chairman roles at Hilo Limited, the EV scooter manufacturer; IONETIC, the battery pack technology business; and Pod Point, a provider of EV charging stations.

In addition to Palmer’s previous leadership role at Nissan, he was Chief Executive Officer of Aston Martin Lagonda from 2014 to 2020, where he launched Aston Martin’s first SUV, the DBX, and first mid-engined sportscar, the Valkyrie. He has also been an advisor to successive UK Governments on several business issues.

The Bristol-built Charge Qube uses repurposed, sustainable, second-life batteries housed in standardised, stackable shipping containers that can be deployed to exact requirements.

By repurposing EV battery packs for second-life applications, Fellten not only reduces manufacturing costs but also significantly lowers the carbon footprint associated with producing new batteries. CEO Chris Hazell has emphasised that this approach creates a cost-effective solution with considerable environmental benefits.

Dr. Palmer, non-executive Chairman at Fellten, said:

“The key for me is the fact that Fellten’s Charge Qube use second-life batteries to build these systems, this is essential in the urgent race to decarbonise society and move to a renewable energy powered society. This is an exciting moment in the company’s journey to be joining, and I look forward to assisting with its growth. The fact Chris and the teamhave decided to follow a standardised format is a spark of genius; keep it simple and growth will follow when the product is right.”

“A lot of focus, and unnecessary emotions from both sides of the battle ground, are vented at EVs. What a lot of people miss is the vital importance of batteries that don’t move, stationary storage batteries. Batteries are the true enabler of a move towards an electrified power system, one that delivers a sustainable future for us all,” noted Palmer.

Chris Hazell, CEO of Fellten:

“It is a real win for Fellten to have Andy join as non-exec Chairman. He is a well-known and respected industry leader and battery expert, and already sits on the boards of excellent battery companies.

“We believe Andy’s expertise will help take the Charge Qube product line to the next level.”

Ginny Buckley, the chief executive of Electrifying, an electric car advice site, said:

“EV batteries have a second, or even third life beyond powering a vehicle and innovative Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are a perfect example of the new opportunities created by electric vehicles.”
