Trojan Energy is partnering with Ceredigion County Council to deliver an on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging trial in Aberystwyth.

The project marks a crucial step in supporting the council’s ambition to achieve Carbon Net Zero by 2030, and will help residents without driveways access convenient and reliable charging solutions close to home, it said.

Starting in March/April 2025, 18 Trojan Energy charging points will be installed across three locations in Aberystwyth, following a detailed ground penetration radar survey.

Each site will benefit from six on-street chargers, providing a practical solution for residents who do not have access to off-street parking.

Trojan Energy charging points are designed to fit seamlessly into the pavement, sitting flat and flush when not in use. This innovative approach removes the need for bulky charging posts, keeping pavements clear and free from trip hazards, and ensuring pavements remain uncluttered.

Residents participating in the trial will receive a charging adaptor, at no cost, which connects their vehicle to the charge point and automatically handles billing.

The trial of the flat and flush charging solution also aims to provide valuable insights into how on-street charging can best serve Aberystwyth residents and the wider region.

Trojan Energy is committed to working closely with Ceredigion Council and its residents throughout this trial, ensuring that the solution “meets the needs of the community and supports the council’s longer-term plans for expanding EV infrastructure”, it said.

Ian Mackenzie, CEO of Trojan Energy, said:

“We are thrilled to work alongside Ceredigion Council on this important trial. Access to reliable, on-street charging is a key barrier for many residents considering the switch to electric vehicles.

“Our mission is to ensure that no one is left behind in the transition to clean transport, and we want to provide on-street charging points for residents without cluttering their streets with permanent charging bollards. We look forward to supporting the residents of Aberystwyth and beyond.”
