Council-engineered cross-pavement EV charging solution Gul-e has announced the appointment of commercial strategist Shayne Rees as director.
Rees brings almost two decades of energy sector expertise to the business, and will lead Gul-e’s commercial expansion of public-realm cross-pavement networks across local authorities and housing associations.
Before joining Gul-e, he served as Senior Partnership Consultant and Head of Marketing for char.gy, and Head of Sales and Marketing for ubitricity (a Shell company). His sector expertise is also built on an 18-year tenure with energy giant EDF Energy, where he led marketing, communications, and commercial strategies.
The company said it is aiming to eliminate the “driveway tax”, where 40% of UK households lack access to a private driveway, deploying practical, secure, and durable on-street charging infrastructure to ensure an equitable transition.
Gul-e’s cross-pavement channels aims to allow residents to connect to affordable overnight home charging tariffs without creating street-level trip hazards, estate clutter, or long-term asset maintenance overheads for housing providers, it said.
As part of the ODS Group, wholly owned by Oxford City Council, the expansion of Gul-e represents a “key pillar in the group’s wider sustainability, social equity, and community-wealth building strategies”, it concluded.
Shayne Rees said:
“I am incredibly excited to join Gul-e, a company born from local government innovation that puts community social outcomes and long-term structural durability ahead of cheap, short-term fixes.
“Our technology conforms completely to the unique infrastructure realities of our public-sector and housing partners, and I look forward to working alongside registered providers nationwide to unlock affordable charging for millions of UK homes.”
