Zest opens 78 charging spaces at University of Warwick
Investor-operator of public access electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure Zest has opened 78 charging spaces at the University of Warwick.
It comes ahead of the Transport + Energy Forum due to be held at Warwick Conferences next week. The Forum will bring together more than 60 public sector leaders to explore actionable steps in transport decarbonisation and showcase cutting-edge sustainable technology, including a presentation from gold sponsor Zest on its partnership with the University of Warwick.
The installation is part of a £1.3m investment by Zest, a certified B Corp, that will see the charge point operator provide and manage charging facilities at the University over the next 15 years.
Fast and rapid EV chargers have been placed across multiple university car parks with projections that it will save more than 15,000 tonnes of CO2 – equivalent to 69 million miles driven in a petrol car.
The university is recognised for its excellence in transport and future mobility research, the university’s respected academics work with major industry and government to advise and develop green, clean modes of transport, and trial solutions on campus.
Delegates to the T+ E Forum who are staying overnight will have the opportunity to tour their facilities on Friday 22 November from 10:00-12:00. The tour will give delegates the opportunity to meet specialists from the Digital Automation Laboratory, Degree Apprenticeship Centre, Materials Engineering Centre and Energy Innovation Centre.
George Saxon, Head of Transport Systems & Operations at the University of Warwick, said:
“We have been delighted to partner with Zest on this significant step towards sustainable transport solutions on our campus. The new charging facilities align with our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and supporting those transitioning to electric vehicles. By creating these charging spaces, we are not only enhancing the convenience for our staff, students, and visitors but also supporting the wider shift towards cleaner mobility in the region.
Robin Heap, CEO at Zest, said:
“Providing abundant charging facilities ahead of demand encourages more people to make the switch to electric vehicles, so Zest is proud to be supporting the University of Warwick as it looks to reduce carbon emissions generated from all forms of transport. After announcing our partnership with the University in May, we’re delighted to already be operating over 60 charging spaces, making public EV charging more accessible for staff, students and visitors alike.”
