Milton Keynes expands EV charging network

Milton Keynes Council is working with Connected Kerb and highways partner Ringway to carry out the installation of hundreds of electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

The partners are working to install the charging points in older areas of the city where there are fewer off-street parking options and have just completed the installation of the 100th charging point – on Westminster Drive on Bletchley.

Around 40% of homes in Milton Keynes do not currently have access to off-street charging facilities. The project secured the largest grant offered to date from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) of £1.1 million.

Deputy Leader of MK Council, Cllr Robin Bradburn, said: “We’re working to make Milton Keynes one of the best places to own an electric vehicle and this project is a great step in the right direction. Local people without off-street parking who are thinking of making the switch to electric now have more flexibility thanks to these new charging points. More electric cars on our roads helps everyone, as it makes MK greener, cleaner – and quieter.”

Chris Pateman-Jones, CEO, Connected Kerb, commented: “I am delighted that Milton Keynes Council, who are a recognised pioneer in the EV sector, selected Connected Kerb for this critical EV infrastructure project which aims to boost EV uptake in Milton Keynes by improving access to charge points for residents without off-street parking. Bring affordable, reliable and sustainable mobility to everyone is essential if the city and the wider UK is to reach net zero.”

The event is being supported by a number of industry partners, including strategic transport partnership group Black Country Transport (BCT), with others to be announced over the next few weeks.

Spaces for local councils will be provided free of charge so that each participating company is guaranteed access to local government officers who sit at the heart of this transition.
