Transport + Energy’s latest myth buster video, delivered in conjunction with Britishvolt, dispels the myth that electric vehicle (EV) batteries will go to landfill at the end of their life.

In the video Britishvolt’s Chief Strategy Officer Isobel Sheldon OBE, remarks: “There simply isn’t going to be a toxic pile of batteries going into landfill. We’ve been recycling lithium ion batteries since the early 1990s. These batteries contain really valuable materials so we actually want to get back and reuse them in the manufacturing process. If you look at the second hand price of batteries that go into vehicles that have had problems it runs into thousands of pounds. You’re not going to put something of that value in the ground and not recover the materials out from it. It’s just not going to happen.”

The first video in the series busted the myth that electric vehicles (EVs) have short ranges.
