David Trousdale is a sustainability and decarbonisation specialist with over eight years of experience spanning local government, engineering consultancy, and climate‑focused innovation. Before joining Newcastle City Council, he spent several years at WSP (formerly Wood plc), where he established and led the transport decarbonisation team, supporting local authorities across the UK on projects involving EV infrastructure, solar deployment, battery solutions, and wider low‑carbon transport strategy. His background also includes more than five years of work on transport and community net‑zero programmes, giving him deep technical insight into modelling, behaviour change, and data‑driven climate planning.
In his current role as Principal Adviser for Climate Change at Newcastle City Council, David leads the development and delivery of the city’s Net Zero Action Plan, working across carbon accounting, climate adaptation, emissions reporting, heat‑decarbonisation projects, skills programmes, EV strategy, and multi‑agency collaboration. He is recognised for his ability to translate complex technical and policy challenges into practical, outcomes‑focused action, drawing on a strong foundation in sustainability, public‑sector strategy, and stakeholder engagement. His passion for climate action is rooted in its broad social, environmental, and economic benefits, and he plays an active role in public‑facing events, regional partnerships, and thought leadership across the North East.
