Blackburn adds EV charging to council-run business centres

Drivers with electric vehicles can now charge their vehicles at new three new car parks in the borough of Blackburn.

Drivers with electric vehicles can now charge their vehicles at new three new car parks in the borough of Blackburn.

The charge points are located at three business centres in the local authority area, including the Blackburn Enterprise Centre, Blackburn Technology Management Centre and Eanam Wharf Business Centre.

They join the existing charging points at five other car park sites in the locality. There are currently over 100 electric cars in the borough and more than 1,000 in surrounding areas. 

The new charging stations are available for staff, tenants and customers at the business centres and can also be used by members of the public.  Parking is free while charging your vehicle for a maximum of 4 hours under a charging tarrif of 25p/kWh.

Councillor Phil Riley, Executive Member for Growth and Development, said: “Many council-run car parks and now our business centres have electric vehicle chargers, this is a great move forward for a greener and more environmentally friendly future.

“Electric car use is increasing across Blackburn and Darwen and visitor to our borough can visit us knowing they can charge up wherever they go

All of the charging points have 22kW AC sockets and are operated by Swarco E.Connect. Customers can charge using an RFID card or by downloading the app available from Google and Apple stores.
