Mercedes enters e-scooter marketplace
Developed in partnership with Swiss company Micro Mobility Systems AG, the new foldable escooter aims for the premium end of the market.
The scooter, powered by a 500W motor, has a 12mph speed and a 7.8 Ah battery with a range of 15.5 miles.
The product is aimed at the so-called ‘last mile’ element of a journey where other transport modes have been used and the e-scooter is for the final leg.
The scooter has front and rear suspension, a retractable steering column, and a brake. A display offers ride data and enables the e-scooter to be paired with a smartphone. Although still illegal in the UK for road use – trials are continuing, as previously reported on Transport and Energy – the e-scooter also has lights on the front and back to enable use on the highway.
Mercedes have claimed the product has been made for a long life span and claims it will work for around 3,000 miles before serious wear and tear will occur.
Micromobility is becoming a rapidly growing market with various manufacturers, including Ford and Volkswagen, assessing moves into the sector.
