Jason Smith is the Electric Vehicle Project Manager at Kirklees Council and has spent more than ten years working at the forefront of electric vehicles and shared mobility.
Starting his career at Manchester Metropolitan University, Jason managed the university fleet and led its transition to electric vehicles at a time when EVs were still an emerging technology. He also helped develop innovative mobility schemes including car clubs and cargo bike programmes. Following this, he moved to Transport for Greater Manchester, where he oversaw EV engagement activities and supported the rollout of rapid charging infrastructure across the city region.
Today, Jason leads Kirklees Council’s electric vehicle programme, covering everything from public charging infrastructure and LEVI funding to innovative on-street charging solutions. He remains passionate about shared mobility and continues to support local car club initiatives, helping to demonstrate how electric vehicles, car clubs and mobility hubs can work together to support more affordable, sustainable and inclusive transport.
