National Grid DSO has published its Strategic Roadmap, setting out how it will deliver during the remainder of RIIO-ED2, and support the transition to a smarter, more flexible energy system.

The roadmap provides a “transparent view” of National Grid DSO’s priorities through to 2028 and beyond, including network planning, flexibility market development, operational transparency, customer participation and data accessibility, it said.

Developed collaboratively with stakeholders over the last year, the roadmap reflects the evolving needs of communities and businesses across the Midlands, South Wales and the South West, while maintaining a strong focus on delivering against existing commitments.

The roadmap introduces refreshed strategic objectives focused on enabling affordable and reliable local energy, improving network visibility and transparency, supporting customer growth and connections, and expanding access to flexibility markets.

It also strengthens the organisation’s commitment to accountability through the publication of performance indicators linked directly to customer and stakeholder outcomes.

The publication comes as the DSO continues to play a role in supporting the wider industry transition towards a more flexible energy system, it said.

Cathy McClay, Managing Director of National Grid DSO, said:

“As we move into the final years of RIIO-ED2, it’s important that we remain focused on delivering the outcomes we’ve promised to customers and stakeholders, while continuing to prepare for the future needs of the energy system.

“This roadmap sets out clearly how we will continue to develop a more flexible, transparent and customer-focused distribution system, shaped through collaboration with stakeholders across our region and the wider industry.

“Flexibility will play a critical role in enabling a more affordable and resilient energy system for customers. Through this roadmap, we are continuing to build the capabilities, partnerships and transparency needed to support that transition and help communities and businesses benefit from the opportunities ahead.”
