Polestar has reduced the total cost of ownership by adding grid rewards to its Polestar Energy offer in additional European markets, alongside car-controlled smart charging.

The firm hopes that through expanding its rewards and smart charging options it can address a growing need for reliable and affordable home charging.

It builds on the launch of the options in 2024, which spread to 12 European markets in 2025, before the new deal with partner Octopus sees the rewards offered in Germany and France.

Grid rewards enable additional savings by rewarding users for allowing their car to support grid stability through smart charging. In Germany, Polestar owners using Polestar Energy and an Intelligent Octopus energy tariff can save up to 50% on each home charging session, leading up to an average annual saving of €300 Euros per year.

In France, Polestar owners using Polestar Energy and an Intelligent Octopus Energy contract benefit from a €0.08 per kWh rate (via a bonus credit) for all smart-managed charging sessions – leading to up to 60% savings on charging costs and an average of €250 in savings per year on vehicle charging, it said.

Polestar has also introduced car-controlled smart charging for Polestar 2 and Polestar 4, rolled out via the Polestar Energy app across all Polestar Energy markets. With this new capability, drivers no longer need a specific integrated home charger to benefit from smart charging, it added.

Olivier Loedel, Head of Product Software Management at Polestar, said:

“Expanding the offer of grid rewards to more markets marks an important next step in lowering total costs of ownership for Polestar drivers. By unlocking savings of up to € 300 per year, we are significantly reducing electricity costs for our customers at a time when energy prices remain high and grid stability is a growing concern across several European markets.”

“The majority of EV charging happens at home, and cost-efficient, seamless home charging is a key convenience for drivers today. Reducing barriers such as the need for a specific home charger, opens the benefits of Polestar Energy and smart charging to even more Polestar customers.”
