Evidence is being sought by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) to inform future policy on road signage for electric vehicle (EV) charging locations in England.
In making the call, the UK Government’s OZEV said that “clear and consistent signage is essential” as part of the transition to EVs, and ensures that drivers can “confidently and safely undertake journeys of all types—even when digital navigation tools are unavailable”.
OZEV is calling on all stakeholders to share their views and evidence on the effectiveness and limitations of current signage policy; barriers faced in obtaining EV signage; the criteria for when signage is appropriate; and for EV hubs across the A-road and Strategic Road Network (SRN).
It is also calling for recommendations for a consistent approach to signage across all road types.
The survey is split by road type, and OZEV is calling for those with an interest in eHGVs and other relevant vehicles to fill out the section on the SRN – which is all roads managed by National Highways, motorways and trunk roads.
There are also sections for local roads managed by local highways authorities and on-site signage at charging locations, such as motorway service areas and retail parks.
OZEV said that input will “help shape a clear, consistent approach to EV signage that balances strategic necessity with road safety and efficiency.”
Relevant stakeholders can respond to the online survey here, and it is open for eight weeks until midnight on the 11 March.
