Neot Green Mobility (NGM) and Ember are joining forces to accelerate the electrification of long-distance transport in Scotland.

NGM, an investment platform in sustainable mobility, is supporting electric coach operator Ember in rolling out 60 additional vehicles. This new tranche complements the 40 e-coaches already delivered in March 2025, as part of the second phase of the Scottish Zero Emission Bus Challenge Fund (ScotZEB2).

With more than 100 electric coaches in operation by mid-2026, the fleet is set to be one of the largest e-coach fleet operated by a single company in Europe. The financing has been fully structured and deployed via the NGM platform, which brings together public and private capital to support large-scale low-carbon mobility projects.

With a total investment estimated at £50 million, the operation is carried out within the framework of the ScotZEB2 Challenge Fund, the Scottish Government’s flagship programme to accelerate the transition to zero-emission public transport.

Beyond the size of the fleet, the project also has a comprehensive, first-of-its-kind extended battery warranty, tailored to high-mileage, long-distance operations; a unique feature at this scale in the European market.

The vehicles offer up to 500 km of range and have been tested under Scotland’s demanding weather conditions. Once fully deployed, the 100-vehicle fleet is expected to avoid up to 25,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year, while improving air quality and reducing noise pollution across Scotland

Philip Valarino, Head of Neot UK & Services Director, Neot, said:

“Through NGM, we aim to make ambitious, replicable electric mobility projects possible, both financially and operationally. Intercity electrification is no longer a concept.

“It’s happening now, in real conditions, and Ember is proving what’s possible through bold execution and operational excellence. We are proud to partner with such a pioneering e-mobility player.”

Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, said:

“I welcome this announcement of 100 new zero-emission coaches, supported by £13 million through ScotZEB 2. This really demonstrates the strength of collaborative working across the bus, coach and finance sectors to deliver new zero-emission routes for Scots and connect towns and cities right across the country.

“Scotland continues to lead the rest of the UK on zero-emission bus and coach fleet proportionally, and ScotZEB 2 is helping us to achieve this.”

Keith Bradbury, Co-founder of Ember, said:

“Electric intercity transport works when you engineer the complete technology platform from scratch. The challenge isn’t proving the concept anymore – it’s executing at scale.

“Our partnership with Neot gives us the capital to scale nationally and then internationally. We’re grateful to have the right partner backing that execution.”
