UrbanChain and Believ have announced a partnership on the delivery of traceable, verifiable renewable energy.
Manchester Science Park-based UrbanChain will supply Believ’s expanding public charging network with renewable energy that is local, transparent and directly matched to certified generators through UrbanChain’s private energy market model.
The partnership with Believ is UrbanChain’s first with a national EV charge point operator. Backed by £300 million in investment from Liberty Global, Zouk Capital, and infrastructure banks including Santander, ABN Amro, NatWest, and MUFG, Believ is focusing on providing on-street charging solutions in residential areas.
A substantial portion of the company’s funding is also being directed towards rapid and ultra-rapid charging hubs, it said, as well as improving access in rural and underserved communities.
Charlie Parry, Chief Development Officer at UrbanChain, said:
“This partnership goes beyond energy supply. It’s about building local clean energy ecosystems – linking renewable generation to charging infrastructure, supporting social housing and schools, and empowering councils to deliver on their Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) and net zero goals.
“Believ represents the scale and purpose of what the UK’s net zero transition should look like – practical, fair and rooted in community benefit. We’re proud to be powering that mission with traceable clean energy, helping to create local markets that deliver cleaner air and more affordable power.”
Guy Bartlett, CEO of Believ, said:
“As we scale our network to tens of thousands of public charge points, it’s vital that we do so responsibly – with energy that’s genuinely renewable and traceable. UrbanChain’s technology gives us that transparency and helps us demonstrate that every Believ charge contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable energy system.”
Luke Templer, CFO at Believ, said:
“UrbanChain’s technology gives Believ a unique advantage – affordable, verifiable clean energy that supports our mission to deliver Cleaner Air for All.”
