Logistics firm John G. Russell has collaborated with Cleaner Group on eTruck megawatt charging infrastructure.
Cleaner Group’s expertise will provide dedicated planning, design, utility, and on-site eTruck charging solutions for Russell Group, installing Scotland’s first megawatt charging system.
Consisting of John G Russell (Transport) Ltd, Carntyne Transport Co Ltd, and Russell Rail Road, the Group offers a complete range of supply chain solutions, including warehousing, distribution, and intermodal transport.
A Megawatt Charging System (MCS) delivers high-voltage direct current (DC) with a power of up to 3.75 megawatts. This rapid charging process uses a specialised connector and cable system to safely handle the high power levels. Trucks equipped with compatible battery management systems draw the current and convert it to recharge their batteries.
Andy Ryan, Group Sales Director at Cleaner Group, commented:
“It is a privilege to collaborate with Russell Logistics on Scotland’s inaugural Megawatt Charging System, and Cleaner Group is thrilled to be announced as their chosen partner. We worked closely with the team to ensure we created a solution that meets the needs of a challenging operation and meets the future demands of their push for net zero.
“This solution will allow for charging from 0–80% in as little as 31 minutes – a game-changing dwell time for eHGVs. Delivering a state-of-the-art charging system will serve as a model for future developments in sustainable energy solutions within the group. We are proud to be leading the way with charging systems of this level with a leading logistics provider across Europe.”
Stephen Madden, Group Fleet Engineer at Russell Group, added:
“We’re delighted to be working with Cleaner Group to bring this groundbreaking megawatt charging infrastructure to life. As a business, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and leading by example within the logistics sector. This investment demonstrates our dedication to innovation and long-term sustainability. Cleaner Group’s expertise and collaborative approach have been instrumental in shaping a solution that supports our operational goals and aligns with our net-zero ambitions.”
