OVO customers can get up to five free solar panels, around half the panels required for the average home, to be redeemed when they invest in an OVO solar and battery package in the future.

Customers can can sign up to the solar offer in the OVO app, at which point they will start to “bank” solar panels, the company said.

Over the period of two years, its Beyond customers can accrue up to 5 solar panels, which can be redeemed against an OVO solar and battery package within 3 years.

The new offering is the latest in OVO’s reward programme plans to help customers save energy wherever they are on their journey, and aiming to avoid hefty up-front costs.

The offer is also transferable to a new property, opening up solar to renters.

The Beyond package also includes other savings and discounts on selected partner products and services, including banking thousands of EV miles to power a future electric car.

Similar incentives to redeem against air source heat pumps will be rolled out by OVO later this year, it said.

Mat Moakes, Chief Commercial Officer, OVO said:

“Households are getting excited about solar as it holds the power to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, cut bills and get more green energy into homes and on the grid. Our new type of rewards programme helps customers bank rewards for a greener future by offering free solar panels, to install when they’re ready.“
