Applegreen Electric goes live on Zap-Pay

En-route electric vehicle (EV) charging network Applegreen Electric is the latest network to go live on Zap-Pay.

As of last week Applegreen Electric, with its network of high-powered ultra-rapid chargers, is now fully up and running on Zap-Pay. Thanks to the charge point operator’s network of high-powered charging devices primarily found at Welcome Break locations, the new partnership makes paying for charging on longer journeys much easier for electric car drivers up and down the country.

Established in 2021 as a subsidiary of Applegreen, Applegreen Electric focuses exclusively on the delivery of high-powered EV charge point infrastructure for en-route charging.

The operator is rolling out a network of ultra-rapid charging points at motorway service areas (MSAs) across the UK, as well as the USA and Ireland. The charging provider currently operates around 160 chargers stretching from Scotland to the home counties, primarily at MSAs on the strategic road network.

As well as being able to search for charge points, plan longer journeys and share updates with other EV drivers, Zapmap users can now pay quickly and easily for their charging on Applegreen Electric’s network of charge points, which are ideally placed for topping up while en route to a destination.

The charge point operator  joins live Zap-Pay partners Osprey, ESB Energy, char.gy, GeniePoint, Mer, MFG EV Power, Fastned, Alfa Power, Connected Kerb, evyve and Charge My Street in making payment easy for electric car drivers up and down the country.

Launched with a mission to include all the key charge point networks across the UK, Zap-Pay is a single-app payment solution that uses a credit or debit card to pay for charging.

The payment solution avoids the hassle of using different payment methods across all the various networks, providing a simple way to pay for EV charging across networks from within the familiar Zapmap app.

Matt Lloyd, Head of CPO Networks at Zapmap, said:

“I’m very pleased that Applegreen Electric is now online as a fully fledged payment partner. With high-power charge points conveniently situated at motorway service stations, Applegreen Electric is a valuable addition to the Zap-Pay partner network – and this announcement should come as great news for electric car drivers undertaking longer journeys.

“For any new electric car drivers not familiar with Zap-Pay, it’s a really easy way to pay for charging across networks from within the Zapmap app. Just open the ‘Payment’ filter in Zapmap and select ‘Zap-Pay’ to see the charging locations of all twelve payment partners.”

Jack O’Brien, Country Manager  at Applegreen Electric, said:

“Integrating with Zap-Pay is another really exciting step forward for Applegreen Electric.

“Zapmap is already an important partner for us in terms of helping drivers to find our charge points and plan their routes around Applegreen Electric locations. So I’m thrilled to see this integration go live and delighted to add our network to Zapmap’s cross-network payment solution.”
