Yunex Traffic has completed the commissioning of a high-capacity electric vehicle (EV) charging solution for Highways Stops Retail Limited (HSRL).

Now in operation, Yunex Traffic’s field-based service engineers have taken responsibility for the ongoing servicing and maintenance of the charging solution.

HSRL, which owns and operates 16 service stations across the South East of England, selected its Astwick site, located on the northbound carriageway of the A1 trunk road near Hitchin, as its first forecourt to provide customers with en-route EV charging facilities, based on a distributed power management system.

The solution features a Kempower distributed power system comprising two triple power cabinets, each capable of delivering up to 400 kW, with four dual satellite units providing simultaneous charging across eight bays, each equipped with contactless payment functionality.

Max Todd, Kempower’s Partner Sales Manager for the UK and Ireland, said:

“A trusted partner like Yunex Traffic is an asset when embarking on new kinds of projects like this. We’re proud to have supported HSRL to integrate charging into its site and, for the first time in the UK, offered our hardware through a flexible leasing option. Flexible funding will enable more charging operators to invest in infrastructure and support the e-mobility transition in the UK and beyond.”

Wilke Reints, Managing Director, Yunex Traffic UK, said:

“This project marks a number of significant important milestones – most notably, the first deployment of a Kempower solution on a UK fuel forecourt.

“With a comprehensive portfolio of tailored charging solutions for the EVCI market, we are proud to deliver bespoke systems for a wide range of applications – from farm shops and charging hubs to airports and now fuel forecourts. Drawing on this extensive experience, we look forward to continuing to work closely with our partner Kempower, working together to support the evolving EVCI needs of a diverse range of market sectors and use cases.”
