UK fuel distributor Certas Energy will power The Great British Farm Fest using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), it has announced.
The move will cut life-cycle GHG emissions by up to 90% compared to standard diesel, it said, with an expected delivery of 20,000 litres to the event, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, from 22 to 24 May.
Certas Energy’s commitment aims to offer an opportunity for the farming community to witness the power of HVO first-hand. HVO can also improve local air quality in comparison to standard diesel, with a reduction in tailpipe emission, reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), particulate matter (PMs) and carbon monoxide (CO).
Designed as a ‘drop-in’ replacement for standard red or white diesel, it can be used in existing diesel engines and machinery without the need for costly modifications or significant downtime.
HVO is a transitional fuel – it can help customers to lower emissions from their operations, meet their sustainability goals and take meaningful steps towards their net zero future.
The event will feature farming advocates including Jeremy Clarkson, Lisa Hogan, Kaleb Cooper, Charlie Ireland, Adam Henson, and Certas Energy brand ambassador Olly Harrison, and is expected to draw crowds of more than 60,000 people over three days.
Farming influencer Olly Harrison, who has begun an HVO transition with Certas Energy, said:
“I’m really looking forward to The Great British Farm-Fest and championing everything that makes farming and agricultural communities so brilliant.
“It’s fantastic that such a significant event is being powered by HVO, marking a great opportunity for farmers like me to understand the difference that transitioning from diesel to HVO can make.”
Richard Billington, Managing Director of Energy Solutions at Certas Energy, said:
“We are delighted to be powering The Great British Farm Fest as it’s a meaningful opportunity to demonstrate the power and benefits of HVO as an alternative to standard diesel.
“We are immensely proud that Certas Energy is once again able to lead by example as a responsible and sustainable energy transition partner, and look forward to celebrating the resilience, grit and dedication of our country’s brilliant farming community.”
