Ultra-rapid public EV charging network InstaVolt has begun work at its next superhub site in Wiltshire near to Stonehenge.

Based on the A303, the first phase of works has begun to prepare the site prior to excavation and demolition of the old petrol station to build a new InstaVolt superhub.

Formal construction is set to begin in March with the site expected to be completed late summer 2026.

The new 10 thousand square foot site is made for EV drivers to both charge with the 30 ultra-rapid EV chargers and to relax with a premium farm shop retailer and café, outdoor seating, landscaped areas and children’s play area.

Following the same model as InstaVolt’s superhub in Winchester, Chicklade will use solar power and large batteries to supplement its grid connection, allowing for more stable charging speeds.

The site is situated on the historic Fonthill Estate, known for its sustainable land management and heritage conservation. Just 20 minutes from key tourist sites such as Stonehenge and Longleat, and half an hour from Salisbury, the site is located in a high traffic hotspot.

InstaVolt now has more than 2,200 chargers operating at over 99% uptime and powered by 100% renewable energy.

Matthew Tunstall, Chief Operating Officer at InstaVolt, said:

“This is a major milestone for us as we develop a fantastic asset for this area.

“It will provide the perfect stop for EV drivers travelling through the region, as well as a destination for those who live nearby to recharge and make use of the amenities on-site.”
