Brands across the Volkswagen Group have announced a £1,500 “Grant Guarantee” on certain models ahead of the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG) being finalised.

The move is the latest from a vehicle manufacturer following a lack of clarity around which vehicles will be eligible under the new ECG, which includes cars under £37,000 – but needing to be produced to the highest sustainability levels.

The £1,500 grant will apply on Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4, 11 Škoda models, and the CUPRA Born before 31 August, for customers ordering the vehicles on the new 75 plate, set for delivery from 1 September.

Rod McLeod, Director of Volkswagen UK, said:

“We welcomed the Government’s announcement of its Electric Car Grant and wanted to make sure customers could start benefitting from lower-cost electric motoring as quickly as possible.

“We have already seen an uplift in enquiries since the Government’s grant was announced, which is great news for Volkswagen’s electrification plans.”

Matthew Bowden Škoda UK Brand Director said:

“Škoda has always delivered for our customers, and with the introduction of the ‘Grant Guarantee’, we’re taking that to the next level. Both the Elroq and Enyaq have been recognised across the industry for their exceptional all-round ability and I’m delighted that customers are now able to get the benefits of driving an electric car without delay.”

Marcus Gossen, Managing Director of SEAT CUPRA UK, said:

“This is a great opportunity for customers to benefit from CUPRA UK’s £1,500 grant guarantee. We want to ensure that EVs are accessible to as many people as possible, so by offering this grant early on our CUPRA Born models, we’re allowing everybody to take advantage.

“We welcome the government’s announcement of an electric car grant, and we’re keen for everybody to be able to make the most of electric motoring as early as possible.”
