Ultra-rapid charging network InstaVolt has just installed its 2,000th charger on its journey to 11,000 chargers across the UK by 2030.

The news comes as the pace of expansion is accelerating, as InstaVolt has doubled its charger count in two years, and is now on track to reach a 3,000th charger target in the next year.

It follows the installation of its 1,000th charger in March 2023 at the 23 ultra-rapid charger hub in Banbury on junction 11 of the M40.

The company owns and operates around 13% of public rapid chargers in the UK, it said, with the 2,000th charger installed at a new six-charger hub based at the Co-op convenience store in Blackfen, in the London Borough of Bexley.

Positioned off the A2 – a key route connecting East London with the M25 and Bluewater – the latest addition aims to enhance access to reliable public charging in the capital.

The Blackfen site is InstaVolt’s latest hub based on what it describes as “strategic, needs-driven deployment”, delivering accessible charging to communities with limited home charging options, it said.

Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, said:

“The installation of our 2,000th charger at Blackfen reflects our rapid growth and dedication to delivering critical EV infrastructure where it’s needed most.

“Whether it’s along commuter corridors, in tourist hotspots, or in urban neighbourhoods like this, our focus is on installing and operating world class, ultra-rapid chargers in great locations for the benefit of the UK’s 1.4 million (and growing) electric vehicle drivers.

“With 11,000 chargers planned by 2030, we’re making it easier than ever for drivers to make the switch to electric.”
