The inaugural Transport + Energy Explains webinar in association with Zapmap Insights attracted an engaged attendance of over 200 from across the energy and transport sectors
When Zapmap Insights released their utilisation data at the end of March, it shone a light on the crucial importance of open data opportunities for charge point operators, infrastructure providers, local authorities and the wider public and private sectors.
Following this release, Zapmap Insights, alongside Fastned and GRIDSERVE joined Transport + Energy for the very first in an ‘Explains’ webinar series.
Hosted by James Evison from Transport + Energy, with panellists Jade Edwards from Zapmap, Tom Hurst from Fastned and Rebecca Trebble from GRIDSERVE, the session explored how each of the providers currently use data, how they will use data in the future and how the UK EV market will evolve.
The result was an engaging discussion about drilling down to the granular details of the insights to inform decisions on future provision for identified sites as well as monitoring trends which can be applied to other similar sites. Through collaboration between operators, public and private sectors, these insights can ultimately be used to increase choice and drive down prices for the consumer.
The panel’s key takeaways were:
- Transparency around data points should help the sector forge partnerships with local government, landowners and grid services to improve site selection and charging accessibility.Context is everything: nuanced data enables a comprehensive approach that considers different charging use cases , as well as geographic, seasonal and time-based variations, and EV driver behaviours and preferences. This rounded approach will support informed business modelling and management for the industry.
- Utilisation has not been widely discussed; transparency and collaboration will boost consumer trust and promote wider adoption of electric vehicles, and is an accepted aspect of the other more established industries.
- Stakeholders are hugely motivated, and–there is confidence that increased data visibility and collaboration within the industry will help to develop an effective charging infrastructure and increase consumer confidence.
