Lancaster-based Fuuse has become one of the first charge point management systems in the country to achieve both Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) 1.6 and 2.0.1 certification.
Whilst growing in adoption, OCPP certification is still rare in the UK, with the firm stating it showcases the company’s commitment to delivering a reliable, secure and future-proof charging network for its customers across the UK.
OCPP is a globally recognised communication standard that supports messaging between charging hardware and software. Certification is awarded by the Open Charge Alliance after companies complete a rigorous testing process.
It ensures flexibility between EV chargers and management software with a hardware-agnostic solution, seen under both OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1 compliant solutions; enhancing the security of charging data and messaging between devices and central management systems; and advancing energy management solutions across sites.
OCPP 2.0.1 opens up the functionality for ISO 15118 Plug & Charge integration and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) bidirectional charging capabilities.
The dual certification enables Fuuse to connect with compatible hardware, allowing its customers to benefit from broader hardware choices and future-proofed infrastructure.
A hardware-agnostic approach enables operators to choose charging hardware that’s OCPP-compliant, avoiding vendor lock-in. For EV drivers, this translates to greater charging reliability and a seamless charging experience. OCPP-compliant solutions can unlock benefits for charge point operators (CPOs), ranging from monetising their energy to enhancing reliability.
As industry and market demand evolves, OCPP 2.0.1 solutions are expected to become more prevalent, it said.
Nik Southworth, Chief Operating Officer at Fuuse, said:
“With advancing technologies and the need for more reliable charging across the UK, our dual OCPP certification solidifies our position as the UK’s leading charge point management provider. As our customers choose to scale their operations, our software can too.
“With OCPP 2.0.1, businesses can meet ESG goals through advanced energy management like V2G, cost-cutting and emissions reduction. Plus, features like Plug & Charge offer drivers seamless, secure charging without the hassle of cards or apps. We’re also already working towards OCPP 2.1, which will deliver even more opportunities for operators.”
