VolkerSmart Technologies has completed work to install more than 1,000 on-street charging points across almost 100 roads in Barnet, on behalf of Trojan Energy.

The scheme involved the installation of uniquely engineered charge points which are flat and flush, sitting within the footway on residential streets.

The design leaves footways entirely clear and fully accessible to other pavement users when not in use.

Its team were responsible for all permitting and parking bay suspensions, initial site surveys, provision of utility drawings, trial holes, installation of feeder pillars, trenching, ducting, cabling and reinstatement, installation of the charging points and testing.

Additionally, the team partnered with VolkerSmart Technologies’ in-house ICP team to complete electrical connections to the DNO. They also collaborated closely with VolkerHighways’ traffic management division, minimising disruptions and optimising efficiencies throughout the project.

VolkerSmart Technologies worked with Trojan Energy to foster early contractor engagement and implement continuous best-practice improvements. This collaborative approach emphasised open and honest discussions enabling VolkerSmart Technologies to propose design adjustments to ensure successful project delivery. This included re-positioning feeder cabinets to improve the point of connection and to fully utilise road space by making adaptations to locations maximising the number of charging points installed.

The team supported Trojan Energy in developing a bespoke ‘jig,’ enhancing both efficiency and safety in the installation process. They also assisted with a trial of a new installation method utilising existing cabinet infrastructure.

David Easton, Operations Director for VolkerSmart Technologies, said:

“We are proud of the seamless and successful delivery of this scheme for our client. Clear and consistent communication from all parties ensured exceptional standards of quality were always achieved. We look forward to collaborating with Trojan Energy on future projects.”

Sean Robertson, Head of Chargepoint Installation for Trojan Energy, said:

“We were thrilled to continue our partnership with VolkerSmart Technologies for the delivery of this second phase of work. VolkerSmart Technologies’ industry expertise has helped deliver the project to a fantastic standard, on time and on budget. We look forward to working together on future projects”
