E.ON has announced plans for new ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs at six sites across Scotland.

The 42 high-powered chargers will be installed in key locations near cities such as Dundee, Edinburgh, Stirling, and Dunfermline providing reliable, high-speed charging options for both local commuters and tourists.

The hubs will join E.ON’s first ultra-rapid hub in Scotland, which is already operational in Aberdeen. With a combined charging capacity of 12.6MW, which is the equivalent to the power needs of 40,000 UK homes, the chargers will be capable of charging up to 42 vehicles at a time. Each charge provides up to 150 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

The Aberdeen hub features 12 ultra-rapid charging bays, including four designed to provide additional accessibility for disabled users.

As E.ON’s most northern EV charging station in the UK, it is strategically positioned at the gateway to the city, aiming to offer reliable charging for drivers travelling in and out of the area.

While Scotland has the second-largest geographic EV charging network in the UK, the distances between chargers can create challenges for drivers. The development aims to broaden its network across the UK, and also bridge critical gaps in infrastructure, making charging more accessible and enabling seamless journeys for EV drivers.

On the residential front, E.ON has also installed around 8,000 home chargers and 2,000 chargers for small businesses, enabling over 50 million miles of EV charging in 2024 alone.

Dev Chana, Managing Director of E.ON Drive Infrastructure UK, said:

“Our goal is to make electric driving seamless and accessible for everyone, and these new charging hubs are a significant step forward in Scotland’s transition to cleaner transportation. But this is just the start.

“E.ON operates thousands of charging points right across Europe and these new hubs for Scotland are the latest part of a bigger drive to expand our EV charging network across the UK, part of a far wider expansion across the UK and another example of our  commitment to creating greener infrastructure across the country.”
