Dedicated drivers’ association EVA England has launched a survey in response to the current ZEV Mandate Government consultation.

The news follows the decision in December last year to launch a consultation on the 2030 ICE sales phase-out, which includes the pathway to the target and the current Mandate.

The association wants to hear from all drivers, including petrol and diesel vehicle owners, to identify the remaining barriers to widespread EV uptake in the UK.

It is aimed at drivers who are considering, or have not yet considered, the switch to electric as well as those who already own such vehicles.

The survey will then inform EVA England’s response to the consultation on the Mandate, which is seen as one of the key mechanisms driving the EV transition, and incentivising manufacturers to fully switch in time for the 2030 phase-out of petrol and diesel cars.

As a drivers’ association, EVA England’s remit is focused on supporting and campaigning for EV drivers’ themselves, independently of the manufacturing and charging sectors. The organisation is aiming to inform the UK Government and wider EV sector on drivers’ real world perceptions over what actions and incentives are working in actively persuading more drivers to make the switch to electric.

It looks to identify what barriers are still placing doubt among petrol, diesel, and hybrid drivers that going fully electric does not match their current needs, lifestyle, or budget.

Vicky Edmonds, Chief Executive of EVA England, said:

“The ZEV Mandate consultation is a huge opportunity for the EV sector and wider UK driver community to have their say on the future of EVs. The consultation was launched to gather views on how to make the transition to electric a success and it is now up to us as drivers to express what we feel is working, and what needs changing, for EVs to meet everyone’s needs. That is why getting input from drivers through our survey is important.

“I want to hear more from current petrol and diesel drivers too, so that we can properly break down our understanding of why many feel EVs don’t currently work for them. The EV sector has made huge leaps and strides in recent years pushing the sector forward. At EVA England we strive to provide the real world feedback on this progress and allow drivers to vocalise what works for them, and what makes them choose to driver electric, which is ultimately what matters most.”
