Indra is expanding its relationship with Octopus Energy by introducing a new integration with the EV tariff Intelligent Octopus Go.

The Intelligent Octopus Go tariff offers a cheap rate of 7p/kWh for smart charging an EV through an Indra charger.

Octopus’s technology handles charging times, determining when to charge based on when is best for the grid, and factoring in carbon intensity, providing energy which is cheaper and greener. It also estimates that users can save hundreds of pounds a year compared with a standard tariff.

Compatibility between the Indra charger and Intelligent Octopus Go has been achieved through a software integration between Indra and Octopus’s proprietary energy-tech platform, Kraken.

As a result of the integration, Indra EV charger users will be able to use the Octopus App to link their charger to their Octopus Intelligent Go account. They can also use the Octopus App to control and schedule their charging, safe in the knowledge that all smart charging will be billed at 7p/kWh off-peak rate even if it is outside the standard 11:30pm – 5:30am off-peak times.

Users can also select a ‘ready by’ time in the app, ensuring their car is charged and ready to go at the right time for them.

John Fox, Indra’s Chief Technology Officer, said:

“We’re delighted to announce this eagerly anticipated integration between our smart home EV chargers and the popular Intelligent Octopus Go tariff.”

“We’ve worked closely with Octopus over many months to ensure our customers retain all the features they know and love from their Indra charger whilst benefitting from the cheap and green energy provided via the tariff. We are proud to be one of a small number of EV chargepoint manufacturers who can support smart EV tariffs such as this, in tandem with solar.”

Alex Schoch, Head of Electrification at Octopus Energy, commented:

“With everyday, more drivers are benefitting from cheaper, cleaner driving by switching over to the UK’s most popular charging tariff, Intelligent Octopus Go. Driving for just 2p per mile is a game changer. We’re also able to manage charging across the entire country, helping to balance our grid. Integrating chargers, like those made by Indra, unlocks savings for customers, while supporting our energy system.”
