The Transport Technology Forum’s Working Group concentrating on Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) delivered by local authorities is holding a face-to-face meeting next month to hear about practical solutions for implementing chargers on the kerbside.

The event in Bolton on 21 February is designed to share best practice among stakeholders who are interested in the future of EVCI, particularly those involved in local government, urban planning, and sustainable transport.

The event will consider challenges local authorities face in implementing kerbside EVCI. It will feature ideas implemented by one of the most proactive authorities – Coventry City Council – which will share its experience of delivering charging infrastructure subject to current highway legislation and regulations along with innovative but practical solutions which can be applied in other locations.

The event will also feature an Innovation Showcase, where SMEs will exhibit their technologies, providing councils with an opportunity to directly experience the newest advancements in EVCI as well as a panel discussion on advanced charging solutions, focusing on both depot and on-street fleet charging, which will further enhance the day’s agenda. There will also be an important session on cyber security in EVCI systems, emphasising the importance of safeguarding against cyber risks.

“I would encourage as many councils as possible to join us at this meeting,” commented the group’s Chair, Shamala Gadgil from Coventry City Council.  “We have already delivered two sets of guidelines around procurement and charging infrastructure and this face-to-face event is the next step in our ongoing knowledge sharing activities.”
