Forum Focus: Shayne Rees, char.gy

Transport + Energy interviewed a number of industry figures at its recent Transport + Energy Forum event.

This week, we hear from Shayne Rees, Head of Marketing, char.gy.

char.gy offer a convenient way for drivers to charge an electric vehicle on their street. The company utilise existing street infrastructure to provide two electric vehicle charging solutions:

• A lamppost smart charge point that fits onto existing street furniture

• A satellite bollard smart charge point for greater placement flexibility.

The company launched its new ‘Night Saver’ tariff at last year’s Forum event – a tariff which is designed to help all electric vehicle (EV) motorists manage their rising energy bills.

char.gy’s ‘Night Saver’ tariff enables motorists without access to domestic electricity to charge their vehicle at the most cost-effective time of the day. With wholesale electricity prices cheaper at night, char.gy will offer its customers the opportunity to charge their vehicles at a lower rate of 29p/kWh from midnight until 7am, the next day.

To put EV motorists in control of their costs, char.gy customers will be charged solely for the energy they use, on the day they charge – eliminating the uncertainty of variable monthly bills.

Speaking at the Forum, Shayne Rees said: ”Changes in the electricity market are demanding us to work differently with councils and offer different prices of charging to our customers. The event has done a great job of bringing the right sort of people and stakeholders together so that we can share ideas from each of our perspectives.”

The inaugural Transport + Energy Forum took place on 17 November 2022 and brought together a range of different stakeholders including local authorities, central government, the supply chain, vehicle manufacturers, energy networks and trade associations – to discuss the actions that need to be taken to reach net zero.

The event took place at the Birmingham Conference & Events Centre and featured an overarching theme of ‘Taking action to decarbonise now’.

This year’s event will take place at the same venue on Thursday 16th November 2023. Find out more and register here.
