Community EV charging app Co Charger reaches 10,000 users

Community charging app Co Charger has reached 10,000 users and more than 3,500 available electric vehicle (EV) charge points.

Launched in November 2020 Co Charger has pioneered the concept of Community Charging, a scheme enabling motorists with EV chargers to rent them out to neighbours without driveways or living in flats or terraces, helping them run an electric vehicle without being dependent on public charging. The Co Charger app handles the ‘matchmaking’, bookings, and payments.

Co Charger is now the third largest and fastest-growing UK charging network, bigger than BP Pulse (2,718), Tesla (Destination and Supercharger 1,876) and ChargePlace Scotland (458) (source Zap-Map June 2022).

Joel Teague (pictured), CEO of Co Charger, said: “Community Charging is a game changer in the UK’s transition to electric vehicles. Over the past months it has gained support from the government, councils, and leading industry figures. Most importantly, the rapid growth of users and charging sessions has shown Community Charging working in the real world.”

Bradley Smith of Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire added: “‘Co Charger just swung having an electric vehicle for me. I’m not able to charge at home and it took away any anxiety from charging on the public network. The app connected me with a neighbour 10 minutes’ walk away and handles all the bookings and payments. I plug in after dropping my daughter off at school and walk home – it’s so simple!”
