Shamala is a senior transport and energy professional working within local government, with extensive experience in the planning, delivery, and governance of low-carbon transport infrastructure. She currently leads and advises on major electric vehicle charging infrastructure programmes, including on-street residential charging, charging hubs, and emerging technologies such as wireless and dynamic charging.

Alongside her professional role, Shamala is undertaking a part-time PhD focused on knowledge transfer between lead and follower markets in electric vehicle charging infrastructure, examining how policy, regulation, and delivery models can be adapted across different contexts. She also chairs the Transport Technology Forum’s Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Working Group, bringing together local authorities, industry, and academia to address practical delivery challenges.

Her work sits at the intersection of transport decarbonisation, energy systems, and local authority delivery, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based decision-making, collaboration, and practical implementation.
