Telford to expand charging network across town

Plans are being put in place to expand the number of charging points and accelerate the area’s journey to electric vehicles, according to a report.

The study, undertaken by Telford and Wrekin Council’s transport manager Matt Powell provides information on a pre-tender notice and calling on contractors to provide ideas for improvement of the network.

The document due to be put before councillors outlines the council’s Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEV) strategy and the possible placing of charging for the public across the area.

The transport department will tender for the work through a system for utilities and renewable energy which is currently being designed by the council.

It also hopes that local business partners including the shopping centre will take advantage of the agreement to scale-up EV charging withing their own facilities.

The council currently has procured six EVs across its neighbourhood enforcement team and the highways department and is assessing its sites for how to charge vehicles within its EV fleet.
