The AA and Toyota GB are aiming to challenge common misconceptions around EVs on the Mythbusters EV Rally 2026.

The AA is using two of Toyota GB’s latest battery electric vehicles (BEV) to cover more than 1,850 miles across Britain this week (7-11 September).

The event includes two simultaneous routes for the first time, with electric cars and vans taking part alongside a dedicated Trucks & Trailers route.

Team AA will use the Toyota C-HR+ and Toyota bZ4X Touring during the event, putting both vehicles through a varied route that includes long-distance driving, commercial vehicle activity and different road conditions.

The Toyota C-HR+ offers a driving range of up to 376 miles, while the bZ4X Touring combines a range of up to 366 miles with 669 litres of boot capacity.

June’s AA EV Fleet Readiness Index revealed that, for business drivers charging at home, EV running costs were approximately 67% lower per mile than equivalent ICE vehicles.

According to Q2 AA data, EV breakdowns were also more likely to be fixed at the roadside, with 88.4% resolved without recovery, compared with 84.6% for petrol vehicles.

AA President Edmund King, who is participating in the rally, said:

“Confidence is one of the biggest factors in the shift to electric vehicles. Drivers and fleet operators want clear, practical evidence about how EVs perform on real roads, over longer distances and in everyday operating conditions,” said

“The MYTHBUSTERS EV Rally gives us the chance to test EV readiness in a very visible way. Working with Toyota GB, we’ll be using two of its latest battery electric vehicles to gather real-world insight.”

Matt Docksey, General Manager Fleet, said:

“Toyota believes there is no single route to lower-carbon mobility. Different customers have different needs, which is why our multi-path strategy includes hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles.

“The EV Rally is a valuable opportunity to demonstrate the capability of our latest battery electric models in real-world conditions. The Toyota C-HR+ and bZ4X Touring offer strong range, practicality and everyday usability, and we are pleased to support The AA as it takes part in an event focused on evidence, experience and driver confidence.”
