Keir Mather MP will remain as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Transport, it has been confirmed.
Mather previously had responsibility for decarbonisation and electric vehicles (EVs), as well as freight and borders, in his role as Minister for Aviation, Maritime and Decarbonisation at the Department for Transport (DfT).
At the time of writing, Transport + Energy has been told that portfolios are still being decided amongst the ministerial team.
The news comes as Heidi Alexander also retained her cabinet-level role as Transport Secretary following the appointment of Andy Burnham as Leader of the Labour Party and subsequently Prime Minister.
Mather, who was appointed in September 2025, has previously been vocal about support for the ZEV Mandate, describing the policy as “iron clad” at the SMMT Electrified event earlier this year.
In addition, he often comments and supports the roll out of charging infrastructure across the country, highlighting the importance of investment into the sector.
The news was welcomed by Head of Transport and former RECHARGE UK chair Mark Constable, who took to Linkedin to state:

RHA Managing Director Richard Smith, also welcomed the news, and the additional reappointment of Simon Lightwood as a transport minister.
