World EV Day is focusing on how EVs are “simply better” than petrol and diesel counterparts this year alongside a variety of activities across the sector.
It said that there would be a campaign for “creating a positive playing field on which to define emobility marketing, sales and storytelling”.
In its manifesto, it said this would include narratives about EVs “not being defined by others” and rather than merely myth-busting negative media stories, to create an environment of “good vibes” and positivity around the industry.
Supporting the World EV Day campaign this year includes Sainsbury’s Smart Charge, who will be hosting an in-person EV showcase across five of its supermarket charging sites – including an offer to EV drivers of 1,000 bonus Nectar points for charging up on the day.
Additionally, RAW Charging is also offering free EV charging at its UK destinations, including Alton Towers theme park, more than 30 National Trust sites, as well as 185 Greene King pubs.
Shell Lubricants has also announced today it has formulated and demonstrated a high-performance EV thermal management fluid with the ability to unlock reductions in charging times, without compromise to battery safety, thermal stability or lifespan.
InstaVolt added that it has powered more than 2 million charging sessions from January to September 2025 – a substantial increase from the charging sessions recorded during the same period in 2024 – marking World EV Day “with evidence of Britain’s accelerating shift to electric vehicles”, it said.
The chargepoint operator’s standout infrastructure achievement of 2025 has been the Winchester Superhub, it added – a 44 ultra-rapid charger hub that “represents the future of EV charging”.
Jason Wong, Global Executive Vice President, Shell Lubricants, said:
“As we celebrate World EV Day, we are thrilled to demonstrate that Shell EV-Plus Thermal Fluids can help to significantly improve battery thermal performance, paving the way towards higher charging efficiencies, enhanced safety, convenience and cost-effectiveness— to support the widespread adoption of BEVs demanded by legislative initiatives around the world.”
Jason Simpson, CEO, RAW Charging, said:
“For the fourth year running, we’re delighted to celebrate World EV Day by offering free charging at our destination chargers across the UK.
“Last year, we saw a record number of sessions delivered on World EV Day, a testament to the growing importance of destination charging for drivers and the commitment of our partners to sustainability. We look forward to welcoming even more drivers to our network this World EV Day and continuing our mission to make EV charging accessible, convenient, and enjoyable for everyone.”
Melanie Shufflebotham, Co-founder & COO, Zapmap, said:
“When we celebrated World EV Day for the first time back in 2020, there were 20,965 charge points across the UK. We’re now at quadruple that figure, across the whole spectrum of destination, en-route and near-home sites. Not only that, but we also see utilisation rates climbing steadily.
“This year’s event is a great opportunity for EV drivers to check out a RAW Charging site that may be new to them, as well as for the EV curious to find out about the benefits of driving electric.”
Emma Williams, Director of Customer and Commercial at Sainsbury’s Smart Charge, said:
“We’re not just installing chargers – we’re creating experiences. By integrating EVs into the daily lives of shoppers, we’re helping people see how seamlessly electric vehicles can fit into their routines.”
