National EV charging network Be.EV has partnered with Maple Grove Developments to install 12 ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging bays in Manchester.

Located at the Hattersley Trade Park in Greater Manchester, the firm is investing £892,000 to deliver the new charging hub.

The chargers will provide up to 165 miles of range in a short 20-minute stop, with a Costa Coffee drive-thru or Aldi store also on-site. The new development aims to make the site, which had previously stood vacant for 14 years, into a community destination.

The EV charging hub is also part of a wider regeneration of the Hattersley area being led by Tameside Council, Onward Homes, Homes England and Onward Home, being led by over £14 million of investment to build hundreds of new homes.

This development also includes a £4 million investment from Barratt Homes. The charging hub aims to fits into the public infrastructure upgrades, providing a location for new residents to top up their EVs.

It also follows Be.EV investing £4m to build the Manchester Charging Oasis, which is supporting local economic growth and development in nearby Failsworth.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, said:

“This site is perfectly positioned to attract the large number of families who visit Hattersley Trade Park daily for shopping and leisure. It’s a win for retailers too – they get EV charging for free and while driving additional customers directly to their stores.

“Maple Grove Developments is leading the way in recognising the long-term value of investing in EV charging. It’s future-proofing the trade park by installing chargers now, as it’s ensuring it meets the needs of the thousands of electric vehicles passing by each day – a figure that will only rise as EV adoption continues to grow.”
