McGill’s Buses places Pelican-Yutong’s largest UK order
Bus operator McGill’s Buses has ordered 55 electric vehicles from Pelican-Yutong, it has announced.
The deal has seen the Scottish bus firm increase its previous order of 22 E12 buses with the additional support of investment from the Scottish Ultra-Low Emission Bus Scheme.
The additional 33 vehicles will be delivered to the independently owned operator in Q4 2021, ahead of Glasgow’s UN COP26 climate summit this November.
McGill’s CEO, Ralph Roberts said: “The introduction of these vehicles into our Renfrewshire and Glasgow networks will bring a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, at over 2 billion grams every year.
“Having explored the products available on the market, I am confident that increasing the order with Pelican-Yutong will allow us to meet our stringent targets. The enhanced passenger features, with air conditioning and USB charging, coupled with a whisper quiet journey will bring a new level of passenger experience.
Ian Downie, Head of Yutong UK said: “Pelican are delighted to receive this award from McGill’s for our state of the art, market leading product. This is our largest order to date in the UK, and as well as our joint largest order in Europe.
“This significant investment will mean that McGill’s will have one of the largest percentage of their fleet as zero emissions in the UK, and make a real statement of intent to the citizens of Renfrewshire and Glasgow on the decarbonisation of passenger vehicles. All this with enhanced passenger comfort and safety as standard.”
