ADE launches two new ‘missions’

The Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) has launched two new missions to help deliver net zero in the UK.

Named ‘Empowering Energy Demand’ and ‘Decarbonising British Heat’, the two missions encapsulate solutions that can provide clean, cheap energy for the UK.

The ADE calls for the Government to use their recently demonstrated pace and drive to deliver these missions as a priority.

The trade association’s mission, ‘Empowering Energy Demand’, prioritises a decarbonised, demand-led system. Building on recommendations from the Government, Ofgem and the Climate Change Committee (CCC), the mission strives for a system where households, businesses and industry can decarbonise and play an active role in the energy system.

The ADE’s mission ‘Decarbonising British Heat’ seeks to transform how UK homes and businesses are heated. The mission aims to deliver a future where heat is secure, clean and drives economic growth. Based on the ADE’s launch video, this can only be achieved if low-carbon heat is made a priority.

Research by the trade association has shown that heat network infrastructure investments already exceed the Treasury’s test of leveraging more than £3 of private investment for every £1 of public funds spent.

The ADE’s Chief Executive Officer, Caroline Bragg, said:

“The new Government has set out ambitious plans for electricity capacity. But nowhere near enough is being done on the demand side. If we don’t act now, we may see an electricity system that struggles to cope, industrial investment in decarbonisation go elsewhere and we’ll miss the opportunity to use heat decarbonisation to drive economic growth in our local areas.

“That’s why we’re launching our two new missions ‘Empowering Energy Demand’ and ‘Decarbonising British Heat’ to ensure these crucial parts of our energy system get the political attention they deserve. The ADE and our members are ready to chart the way and we look forward to working with the Government to bring urgency and resolve to these important opportunities for the UK”.
