Electric vehicle charging network Fastned has opened its first ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the South West of England.

The site is based at Commerce Way, Melksham, just off the A350. Six charging bays will be fully operational at the site from launch, capable of expanding to host up to eight charging bays in the future. Supplied by 100% renewable energy, the chargers at each bay are capable of adding up to 300 miles of range to fully-electric cars in just 20 minutes.

Commenting on the new station, Tom Hurst, UK Country Manager for Fastned said: “Drivers living in and visiting Melksham can now benefit from the UK’s best-rated EV charging station. This is our first site in the region and we look forward to welcoming drivers to our highly visible, easy-to-use ultra rapid charging site.”

The launch means Fastned now has 16 stations in the UK. The new station features Fastned’s famous, highly visible solar canopies that help EV drivers to locate the site and stay dry while charging. Reliable and easy-to-use ultra-rapid chargers, as well as a range of payment methods, mean drivers can charge easily and with confidence and get back on the road as quickly as possible.

The Rt. Hon Michelle Donelan, MP for Chippenham Constituency, said: ”The opening of Fastned’s first ultra-rapid EV charging station in our region is a leap towards sustainability, and this station is a vital addition to Melksham and Wiltshire, addressing the lack of charging infrastructure in our rural landscape. It’s a clear signal that our community is driving the future of clean energy and electric mobility. Fastned’s commitment is a commendable step, enhancing convenience for EV owners and reducing our carbon footprint.”
