Govt set to bring forward ICE sale ban to 2030
The Government is set to announce a suite of green initiatives, including bringing forward a ban sales of petrol and diesel vehicles to 2030, according to reports.
The news, reported in the Financial Times, is even more ambitious that the 2035 figure that the government mooted in February 2020.
It is claimed that the move will kick start growth of electric vehicles in the UK and accelerate the original plans that were developed by the government’s Road to Zero strategy that called for the end of sales of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040.
But, according to the FT, the government will set a date of 2035 for the end of hybrid car sales – currently one of the fastest growing sectors – that have both electric batteries and traditional petrol and diesel engines.
