Pre-booking EV charging points service launched

Zap-Map and YourParkingSpace have launched a service to pre-book electric vehicle charging parking spots.

The move has been undertaken by the firms to make pre-booking charging easier and to relieve concern about range anxiety amongst EV drivers.

It will enable motorists to not only be able to reserve a space, but purchase charging at the same time. The service also allows owners of driveways equipped with home charging points to generate a side-income by promoting their spaces for use.

Zap-Map has an inventory of 10,800 charging devices on its platform and by working with YourParkingSpace has now been able to integrate the two technologies to create a booking service.

Drivers will be able to search the map for YourParkingSpace locations with EV charging points, place a booking and pay online in advance. The price for parking in these spaces will include the cost of charging your car.

Harrison Woods, CEO of YourParkingSpace, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for driveway owners with a charge point to make some extra money as the electric revolution takes off, especially given the fact that the Government is committed to banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in just over 20 years.

“It also means EV owners can leave their cars to top-up on juice as they enjoy other activities such as going to the shops, watching a football match or having a meal.”

Dr Ben Lane, CTO and co-founder at Zap-Map, said: “The partnership will give registered Zap-Map users direct access to YourParkingSpace’s growing number of EV charging spaces across the UK. The joint venture will, in the future, provide a new opportunity for Zap-Map users to monetise their home or workplace EV charge points by advertising their points on the YourParkingSpace website.”
