VolkerSmart Technologies is installing 1,600 electric vehicle charge points across six London boroughs.
The firm, part of Hertfordshire-headquartered service provider VolkerHighways, was awarded the deals by Ealing, Brent, Westminster, Lewisham, Islington and Kensington and Chelsea councils.
The work forms part of the Go Ultra Low City Scheme (GULCS) being run by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles within the Department for Transport in a bid to boost air quality in urban hotspots.
VolkerSmart Technologies has been working with Siemens on the GULCS programme since 2019 and has already installed some 1,500 lamp column-mounted charge points across the capital.
The firm also provides 24-hour emergency standby for charge points in the London boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Westminster, Hackney, Camden, Sutton, Islington and Kensington and Chelsea,.
VolkerSmart Technologies operations director David Easton said the firm had “extensive experience” of installing a range of charge points in challenging locations with significant footfall.
